Best Basement Flooring

Heidi Halvorson had a sewage backup in her Rushford, MN home. Guess what happened to her flooring?

We put a laminate board type thing down (suggested by Menards) but had a sewer backup and the flooring is curling around the edges.

We need to replace, but what would be the best choice for a manageable dollar amount?"

Heidi, this is a great question. Sorry about the sewage issue.

The best choice, in my opinion, that will kill two birds with one stone would be vinyl tile.

Realize I'm not talking about the 12x12 square tiles you see in the grocery stores, I'm talking about narrow strips of vinyl flooring that look just like wood flooring.

Be sure you get a waterproof adhesive for the flooring and follow all directions to ensure the vinyl doesn't delaminate in the event it gets wet.

Your other option, but it's far more expensive, is to install ceramic tile, slate, or some other hard flooring product that's put down with thinset mortar. That flooring can be submerged for decades under water and not be damaged. Once the water drains away, you simply hose off the floor!
