Hi, Tim Carter here from Ask the
0:02
Builder. I'm getting ready to do a big
0:04
series of shorts about tiling this
0:07
bathroom. Let me show you what's going
0:09
on. I'm standing outside the bathroom
0:12
right now and this is in my son's
0:14
basement. We've been working on this
0:15
project. Well, it's a whole big giant
0:18
basement remodeling. And anyway,
0:21
we're going to do some ceramic tile
0:22
here. It's really pretty cool stuff. And
0:24
let me show you the tile first of all.
0:28
[Music]
0:29
It's this green. It's got kind of a
0:32
modeled look. I'm trying to really cool
0:35
stuff, but it's um
0:38
you know, it's about 9 in long, about an
0:40
inch and a quarter wide, and we're going
0:42
to install it vertically. All right.
0:43
It's going to be really cool. Kind of a
0:45
subway look. So, there's going to be
0:47
staggered horizontal joints. But, I want
0:49
to show you some of the things that you
0:52
got to think about before you can get
0:53
started. First of all,
0:56
this treated lumber platform, we had to
0:59
make that to get the shower up for it to
1:01
be able to drain by gravity out to the
1:03
city sewer. So, the first thing I have
1:05
to do is I've got to cover that with 1/4
1:07
in cement board. All right. So, I'm
1:09
going to do that in just a little bit.
1:11
And what that's going to do when I put
1:15
the tile on, the tile is going to be
1:17
flush with this drywall face. So, I
1:19
engineered that on purpose to work out.
1:21
So, it's going to be really, really
1:22
cool. You're going to see that. Um,
1:25
another problem we have. Oh, let me show
1:26
you where the tile's going to go. All
1:28
right. So, the tile's going to go on
1:29
this wall here to the corner around this
1:33
wall here all the way up from the
1:34
ceiling down to the floor and then
1:37
around to the right side of the door.
1:39
This wall here is going to stay painted.
1:42
And of course, this here is going to be
1:43
painted. But up here where it's gray,
1:46
that's going to get tile as well. And
1:48
the entire interior surround of the
1:51
shower is going to get tile on, you
1:53
know, all the way back even here. All
1:55
right. So, that's what we're going to be
1:57
doing. That's the scope of the job. And
2:00
I'm going to do any number of shorts
2:02
showing each particular step. So, bear
2:04
with me. Uh there might be multiple
2:06
shorts per day because we got a lot
2:08
going on. And by the way, this is a wall
2:10
hung toilet here. And of course, the
2:13
vanity is going to go right here. And
2:14
one of the things I'm going to do this
2:15
afternoon right here, I need to put some
2:18
thin set in because this cement board is
2:22
about an eighth of an inch shallow, you
2:25
know, recess from the drywall. So, I
2:28
need to I need to feather that out. And
2:30
uh we're going to show that as well. So,
2:32
really cool. Um really cool job here.
2:36
Wait till you see it finished. You're
2:37
really really going to enjoy it. I can
2:38
tell you that right now. If you got
2:40
questions, then just put them in the
2:42
comments and just bear with me. It's
2:44
going to be a really, really neat video
2:46
series. Thanks very much.
