Hello, I'm Tim Carter
0:04
This is Ask the Builder live stream. And it is Tuesday, January 18th, 2020
0:14
I'm glad you're here. This is going to be a really kind of loosely tied together live stream
0:26
And remember, the way the live stream works. If you're a new viewer, if you've just tuned in for the first time, hopefully you've got a YouTube account
0:36
You don't, because if you have a YouTube account, then you're able over in the right side, you can chat
0:43
You can send me questions, comment, whatever. And generally, the people that are chatting are the ones who direct the stream kind of where we go
0:54
So I encourage you to, you know, to hopefully you have a YouTube account and then that way you can do it
1:04
And here's quickly about the YouTube accounts. You can open a YouTube account
1:08
You do not have to upload a video There are probably millions and millions of people who have YouTube accounts who have never uploaded a video The biggest challenge I think comes with coming up with a username
1:23
because, you know, all the good ones are probably taken. So good luck with your username is all I can
1:31
tell you, because I see some really interesting ones here. Today, we're going to talk about
1:35
hey, well, I had you on you. Yeah, we survived. We're going to talk about the snow in a minute. This is who's sponsoring today's live stream
1:43
It's basically me. This is a simple book that you can get for free
1:49
I've got the link right up in the chat. It's an e-book
1:53
I'm not going to send you a paper one made out of Adams, but it's a really interesting book
1:57
It only takes about an hour to read it. And the biggest takeaway is that if you have an asphalt shingle roof
2:04
I tell you in the book, that's a picture of me in it back there, I tell you in the book how to, what you can do, something really simple to get your roof to last for, I don't know, 40, 50 years as long as the asphalt's in pretty good shape
2:21
So get that e-book. It's up in the thing. So anyway Will and I been talking over email Yesterday I wasn here And the reason I wasn here is I was well I didn get finished working until about 4
2:37
And I was exhausted. I literally, I was really tired. I mean, really tired
2:43
I hadn't been that tired in a long time. And the reason why is I had to deal with a lot of snow
2:50
I have, we had this, we had a really interesting. snowstorm. It was, it pretty much did what they said. I got about nine inches
3:02
but, and it was a nice powdery light snow. I mean, it's, it's a beautiful snow to use a
3:10
snowblower with. I mean, the snowblower just, just takes it right away. But what happened is
3:17
the temperature started to go up and then we had a brief period, maybe 45 minutes of some light
3:23
rain. And that was, that was it. That was death on a stick. Hey, William, how you doing? And the
3:31
the rain saturated the snow enough that it, it made it not all of it into concrete, but it made
3:39
it that the snowblower I could not take full passes I can only maybe do six inch cuts And not only did I hello Jason not only did I have to do all of my stuff
3:51
but my next door neighbor, it's got a pretty big kind of driveway and apron area
3:59
I had to do his too because 12 days ago, he broke his ankle
4:05
And I also had to rake off part of this root of his that's over his kitchen
4:12
And it's a long story. The house has got a huge design flaw, I mean, for New Hampshire
4:17
I just marvel at some of the stuff I see. And like, here's the problem
4:25
The house has got a really steep roof like this. And then on the part, on this part, let's say this part's over the kitchen
4:35
Well, I'm going to do it with my one hand. It's real steep like this. then there's the shallow roof that connects right above the exterior wall of the kitchen
4:43
So right here is the kitchen wall. And if you don't get all the snow off around here and down off this roof, then he gets a horrible ice dam
4:52
And I've seen it happen before. The water just pours down this outside wall
4:57
It's crazy. And, you know, and if it gets to
