Hi, I'm Tim Carter and W3ATV. Jim Cluett and I, W1PID. We're going to be going on the Uncle
0:16
Oscar here in about a half an hour. We're going out to Star Island. You'll see more as we cruise
0:23
out off the New Hampshire coast going to do radio in just a bit. All right, do you hear that
0:30
That's the Big Diesels. We're getting ready to Camps Prom and about a 30 minute trip out to Star Island
0:43
And off to that side is where the whale watching ship is
0:48
And they told us that if you happen to see a whale while you're on this ship, it's an extra $10 charge
1:25
And you can see the timeline. The tide is still down about 5 feet
1:31
The tide is coming in. We've got a flood tide happening right now. As soon as we get past these green buoys I sure it going to kick up those diesels buddy
1:52
Right, that's the whale watching boat and those people have paid the money to watch the whales
2:00
But once again, if we see a whale on this boat, we have to pay an extra $10. So don't look out at the water
2:07
There they go. It's like a race. Now, here we go. He kicked up the diesel. Now we're going to race these guys
2:16
It's about time. So if you can hear me, we've been cruising about 20 minutes here in the first islands
2:29
It's a group of about 10 or 12 of them. And some of them are in the state of New Hampshire and other ones are in Maine
2:37
Star Island is straight ahead right over this woman's head. That's where we're going
2:48
Alright, we are getting close. That's Star Island, I'm almost positive. I guess we're
2:57
making the big loop around the back where the dock is. But this is where we're headed
3:05
That's the obelisk right there. I don't know if you can see it. Right there that they used for 2001 Space Odyssey
3:16
But that's the rumor at least. Alright, we're coming up the dock right now
3:23
And we going to be able to be on shore for about an hour and 15 minutes So we got to work fast Set up make some Q
3:40
We're going to crash into the dock right now. Here we go. I hope we don't punch a hole in. Look at this young woman who's going to help us. Hello. Hello
3:55
So we're here set up on Star Island, just to my left. Over here, right through this brush is the Uncle Oscar ship that we came on
4:07
There's the main hotel, and this is a gazebo up on the point
4:11
And our antenna is this very wretched sloper. you might be able to see that it's connected up here and it slopes down to the bench right here
4:20
but we are here buddy on star island doing radio it is flipping amazing it's an amazing day
4:29
all right here's our equipment for today jim brought his pack antenna beautiful beautiful
4:35
little setup. Probably about a 29, 30-foot wire. My Elecraft KX3 with a Begali Adventure Key
4:45
A 4.5 amp hour bio-NO lithium-iron phosphate battery. And a beautiful day
4:53
That's all you need to do outdoor radio here in New Hampshire. September 2nd
4:59
2022. There goes a lobster man in his boat. Okay, we're all set up here
5:09
We by the gazebo and Jim is sending CQ He told other operators that we might be out here So we trying to maybe find somebody You not allowed to see Jim He a very private person
5:26
But there's not a better fist in New England. Okay, we're underway
5:31
And we're leaving Star Island right now. And it is successful. Jim and I both had two Q-sos
5:36
So, victory. We each got two contacts. And actually, Jim got to talk to his cousin at Quebec, Pierre
5:46
His call sign is P-E-2-P-I-B. So how crazy is that? So if you've never been out here to Star Island, highly recommend it
5:56
Really, really a fun trip. And we took a wonderful day. The ocean is like a shit glass, like virtually no wind
6:04
So come on out. Do some two shows. That's the gazebo right there that we operated from
6:20
It was really, really a fun time
