I think this is video number six in the
0:03
series. All right, I want to say
0:05
something right before we get going.
0:07
I've been installing ceramic tile for 50
0:10
years. All right. Am I the best tile
0:12
setter? No. Have I done enough tile to
0:16
have a pretty good idea of what's going
0:17
on? Yes. Okay. Here's something that's
0:20
really important. Remember, we're
0:22
installing this tile this way. All
0:25
right. And it's going to be subway with
0:27
a a half a tile here. All right. Here's
0:29
what you don't want to have happen. You
0:32
don't want to just start putting pieces
0:34
of tile down on the floor, full pieces,
0:37
and then end up like this with a tiny
0:40
piece at the top. You want to figure it
0:42
out so that you end up with either the
0:45
tile touching, which is very hard to do,
0:48
or you have to cut off a little bit. So,
0:52
guess what? The distance from the floor
0:56
down up to the ceiling to here happens
0:58
to be 92 and a/4 in. Let's go show you
1:02
what I did to make sure it's going to
1:03
work out.
1:05
While I was busy doing something else in
1:07
the bathroom, I had my son do me a
1:09
favor. Look at this.
1:13
I told him to take the tiles and put
1:16
them end to end as they're going to be
1:18
on the wall on the floor here. All
1:20
right. So, these are nice and tight.
1:22
They were in a straight line. I've got
1:24
the tape measure on there.
1:27
And guess what?
1:30
We really, really lucked out. I know
1:32
it's upside down for you. It's 93 in. So
1:36
that means on the floor, we can start
1:39
with a full piece of tile. And when we
1:42
get up to the ceiling, we just have to
1:44
cut off 3/4 of an inch. So it's going to
1:46
look like almost a full tile at the top.
1:49
And that also means that the subway
1:51
tile, all right, instead of it being
1:54
half of one of these pieces, instead of
1:57
it being half, it's going to get cut off
1:59
just a little bit. So it'll be a nice
2:01
big full piece at the top. And that's
2:03
really important. So if you're ever
2:05
going to have small pieces or it works
2:07
out in your situation, you're not lucky
2:09
like me, you want to have all your small
2:12
stuff down at the bottom. Most people's
2:13
eyes don't go down to the floor, they're
2:16
going up. And in our case, think about
2:18
it. The toilet's in the way, the
2:19
vanity's in the way. So, you have a lot
2:21
of things to hide those small pieces of
2:23
tile. So, you got to think all this
2:25
through before you get started.
